You are still dependent because you have failed to discover and depend
on the dependable in you which possess the ability, quality and quantity
attributes capable enough to attract both employees and customers. Please
discover your self now and bring out those traits.
Friends! Be creative, innovative, self confident, leaders, able, smart,
optimistic, risk takers, good resource managers, futuristic and result
oriented. What have you created so far? Create and develop something, so that
your critics can be put in their place. Did I hear you say, how can I do it?
Have you thought of the amount they collect and how often tailors disappoint
numerous people around you? Isn’t that an opportunity, you should maximize it!
Be dedicated to become the best tailor in the environment where you live. Do
that thing you love most and you have passion for; If you are a woman, have you
gone round to see how those frying “ kosai”, “dankali” and “doya” are doing it?
You can improve on the way they do it and you would make your mark. Try “kunun
zaki” and “zobo”, do not be shy or ashamed, it is all about your packaging.
Friends! You have endless opportunities around you to maximize, explore and
exploit those inherent abilities you are endowed with and become the “Boss” of
yourself and others.
Permit me to give you my personal experience; I grew up with thirst,
but there was no one to quench my thirst, however, circumstances pushed me to
look for the river (water) myself, and I found it. As at 1994, I discovered
that there was no one in my home town Girka-Kampha that could actually give a
stylish haircut, and I took it upon myself as a challenge. One evening like
that, I took one small comb and a new razor, and I started using it to learn
how to barb, not long after, people started patronizing me and I was making
money. As the business prospered, I was able to buy a local clipper, which did
not require electric power to function.
After some time I moved to
Ungwan Bawa and it was there that I learned how to use the electric clipper,
sooner than later I became good at it, and I was given a barbing shop to mange
from 1998-2002. I also worked in three other barbing shops, which was of
immense help to me. This I experienced, when in 2004, I left the village for
Kaduna city; of which upon my arrival, my main purpose of coming to the city
was not working out, rather than being discouraged I got a shop and started the
barbing business that sustained not only me but also my younger brother who was
still in secondary school in Kaduna.
To be precise this business has positively contributed a lot to my
life, and by the grace of God today am a graduate. Up till date I still go for
home service, while my younger brother has gone into the business, and he is
benefiting from the dividends.
May I crave your indulgence to please start something worthwhile, be
knowledgeable about it, do and manage (especially financial management) it
well. I wish you success as entrepreneurs!
